Despite Label Turmoil, TDE Songstress SZA Will Release New Album in 2017

Top Dawg Entertainment’s CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith has been keeping us very involved in the label’s recent movements, which many of us are grateful for. I mean, TDE is typically a pretty unpredictable and undetectable force, but we’ve been blessed with a series of fulfilled promises in 2016. In fact, we have yet to even uncover the mystery artist who dropped an album. However, one of the veteran crew-members was shorted this year and now it’s time to make up for it.

Besides Jay Rock, who’s 90059 dropped in late 2015, SZA is the only member of TDE who didn’t release an album in 2016 despite an announced summer ’16 release date. Missing this mark obviously didn’t sit well with SZA and she later took to Twitter to express her frustration as she mentioned TDE co-founder, Punch. She wrote, “I actually quit . @iamstillpunch can release my album if he ever feels like it . Y’all be blessed.”. Although Punch laughed off the comment, SZA clarified that her label is not at fault for her album’s delay. She furthered expressed feeling of anxiety and exhaustion. She further claimed that she will be stepping away from music following the album’s release.

Her upcoming album, A, will be the follow-up to her first 2 EP’s: S from 2013 and Z from 2014. Hopefully a rapid 2017 release will encourage her to keep the music coming. We need her presence in the urban music community.
